Adam Sandler.
Just keeps getting better and better. I recall my first impression of Sandler as being one of disgust, wondering how anyone could be so rediculous but now as the years have passed I feel he has really developed a sense of self and a desire to be taken more seriously. It wasnt until seeing ’Spanglish’ that I felt Sandler was more then just youre average comedic actor, he was deeper then that, he had something more then laughs to offer.
Then came ‘50 First Dates’ which immediatly jumped to the top of my favorite movie list, it completly took me by surprise and it was a pleasant surprise. The passion and love in that movie came from a deep place, which solidified Sandler as a true artistic genius.
Maybe it was his intent to first win us over with laughs, then when the time was right transform his style, following the likes of Jim Carrey, who went from the insane ‘Ace Ventura’ to the vuenerability of his character in ‘The Truman Show’.
What inspired me to write about Sandler was his most recent movie ‘Click’. Even though almost a month has passed since I saw it in the theatre, something about it is resonating with me. It has not created the normal “watch it and forget it” for me, it took me some place deeper. It was so beautifully done, a modern take on the families of today, with the most amazing soundtrack ever! I have never seen a movie where the soundtrack has had as much of a grip on me as the film itself.
Sometimes your initial impression can truly turn out to be so very wrong, as it was for me in this case. Adam Sandler is now at the top of my must watch films list, along side Woody Allen and Meryl Streep. Just goes to show that everyone deserves a second glance.
