The card store.
Is like the spa, its the only other place where I could easily pass the day, without a second glance at the clock. I am passionate about corespondance through the good ol’ usps. Theres nothing that says “I care about you” more then receiving a card in the mail, which is why in my opinion if youre going to spend the time, invest a little bit of extra time in finding the most perfect card.
Living in this world of now now now, an email is nice, but as fast as some people type, an email is often times quicker then a phone call. A card on the other hand is not so easy, it requires the visit to the card store, purchase of postage, the “retrieval” of the significant other…followed by the “can you sign this?” nagging, and finally the walk to the post box.
That card has gone through quite the journey before it even leaves your hands and by the time it reaches its destination, the envelope has been nicely worn in and is finally ripe for enjoying.
The card store is the beginning of the journey and for me it is the best part. Hours upon hours I am able to stare at that wall, walk around that median, and still find something that I hadnt initially seen, moments before I am ready to check out.
The possibilites are endless, any emotion you are feeling can be conveyed to the recepient through the endless aray of cards to fit that very feeling. Feeling salty? Well theres one for that too. In fact at my local card boutique, that section has quite a representation, and is good for a giggle or two.
It actually doesnt matter if I went to the card store with only one person in mind and the goal of only finding one card, because I most definately leave with a minimum of 3 more than I need. A rush of excitement runs through my body when I find a card that so very well says just what I was thinking….but that I didnt quite know to put into words. These very lucky cards come home with me and go into my special suede lined leather “card” box, until the appropriate occasion or moment arises for them to fufil thier destiny.
For as long as I can remember and for as far into the future as is possible, I always have and always will say “it” with a card. For as far as I am concerned, there nothing quite like that feeling of sifting through the junk mail, only to find a bright envelope that bares your name, the opening and then savoring of that card for days or often weeks. The feeling that someone was thinking of you and they took the time…its that feeling that gets me through.
I love this. When I would walk in a card store my with dad he would groan so LOUD “just pick one it’s only a caaaaard ALICIA!!!!!!!” HAHA he would get so mad I would spend like 45 min picking one! But I agree, it takes effort, and that shows that you care enough to spend that much time on someone
